Taking a page from Joerg’s EXTREME playbook with the title I have a simple suggestion. Don’t call this organization a “union”. Call it a “professional association” instead. The term “union” has a political and divisive connotation which may be a turn off to more conservative YouTubers. If it’s called a professional industry association, then it can still generate the collective strength and influence the same way. It suggests that YouTuber is a serious profession and that others should take content creators seriously.

Clearly clickbait title, but he's got a point to rename it to YouTuber's Professional Association or commonly call it YouTuber's Pro Association.

We are not a union in the legal definition, but we are a union in spirit and intent. I don't think the name matters and there are a lot of things more important than rebranding

Like that this for example, would you buy something called **** or another swear word like this?

I have to agree with the spirit of this post. I don't like that it's called a union as it has such a negative connotation in my mind... Personally I'm favourable toward it being a league or a guild; grab your thesaurus and I think any of the alternatives are preferable.

I can agree that to some the word union brings up bad memories and bad connotations. This probably all stems in the US from the early-mid 20th century mob, teamsters, corruption, Hoffa et al. I'm not too sure about European's view on labor unions but that is my take on America's overall take.

I acknowledge a negative connotation with Unions in the United States, but I don't think it's strong enough to merit rebranding. I like the word Union here simply because the title says what the spirit of it is very clearly. Association or Organization or Guild don't imply anything about our purpose. Those titles would require more explanation to someone just hearing about it. We've also been trying (and succeeding) to gain traction with this brand as it is - currently the top Google results are our Vice Motherboard article, our website, the Facebook group, and Joerg's original video. I don't think switching would be wise without a very strong reason.

I love the name Union.
We are United against YouTubes shitty handling of Advertising.
I don't think people are going to be turned off and think this is like a job union.
We are just a collective group of like minded individuals.
We don't help you with HR nor support your HR issues lol

un·ion [ˈyo͞onyən] NOUN
the action or fact of joining or being joined, especially in a political context. "he was opposed to closer political or economic union with Europe" · [more] synonyms: unification · uniting · joining · merging · merger · fusion · fusing · [more] a club, society, or association formed by people with a common interest or purpose. "members of the Students' Union" synonyms: association · trade union · alliance · league · guild · coalition · [more] a political unit consisting of a number of states or provinces with the same central government. mathematics the set that comprises all the elements (and no others) contained in any of two or more given sets.
Boy I get sick and tired if morons who assume the prefix labor to the word union. Like whats a civil union? what did the declaration of independence mean by a more perfect union? Its almost like. Maybe labor unions are not the only kind?
