So I had this idea and wanted to know what people think. As we all know, YouTube monetisation has been stopped for channels who don’t quite hit certain criteria because it isn’t cost effective for YouTube to have those channels reviewed by a human as the channel wouldn’t bring in enough revenue to pay for the staff reviewing the channel and we are all sick to death of bots. So my idea is to offer a scheme to small YouTube creators which allows them to review the videos from other channels and using guidelines provided by YouTube, decide whether or not the video should be monetised. To repay the small channel for this service, they could then give the option of for every video reviewed or for every ten minutes reviewed, the small channel can have their own advertisement or a specific spot on the home page so that they have a bigger chance for their channel to grow and once they reach a certain criteria (subs and views per month), they are removed from the scheme. This could help get rid of bots and allow for small channels to grow and if a youtuber wants a decision reviewed it would randomly choose a different small content creator to review the decision and the content again

The problem there is it basically makes us all work as slaves. For tiny channels, its not about money, its about how that affects your channel. The small channels will make virtually nothing and be putting in more work for Youtube. Working as slaves isnt a positive solution for anyone.

This is why it’d be an optional scheme so it’d be more like volunteer work rather than slavery. Not to mention, it’d have rewards for the channels involved in the scheme

Still does not address that every video viewed adds value to the platform. Every video should have the option to monetize. The argument that video hosting is expensive is false. It takes a sizeable investment but the cost per view of a video is fractions of a penny.
I have suspected for some time that Youtubes behaviour has fed into a vicious cycle of more advertisers pulling out, then Youtube make another bad decision, then more pull out and so on.
I saw a video last night from a creator I watch with 1.5 million subs and 100k+ views first 24 hours on most videos. He commented that with the current situation on Youtube he wasn't making enough money from the videos to make it worth his time, or the time of the other host hes paying. Said he was paying the other host out of his own pocket. This is a channel that does not sell merch, and does not have a patreon.
I've been using Youtube for over a decade. I will be very sad if it dies. If I was someone liek Jörg who has funneled my heart and soul into it for 10 years I would be devastated.
