In order for a platform to not be reliant on advertisers we need to pay actual money. This goes for Youtube and Facebook, who both sell ads on their platforms. So here's a poll because we are at a turning point of the internet where giants are not coping anymore and privacy concerns are putting CEO's in front of Congress. I expect FB to soon enable premium memberships with no ads and no tracking and it wouldn't surprise me if Youtube follows suit considering how flawed Youtube Red roll out has been (they still can't agree on licensing costs for UK territory, despite over 2 years of talks).
I would like to hear from developers who can talk about running costs and what memberships would need to cost in order for such a service to be profitable or if such a platform would need to be split into free and premium to stay afloat.
