Patreon.
The thing that have kept many YouTubers alive, and a extremely usefull system to allow Consumers to directly support the creators without the need of any middleman.
I myself use Patreon quite alot and directly support my favourite creators, both inside and outside YouTube.
And the transparency it has it also allows me to try give my support to those who need it the most, as eventually there are many who deserve funding.
And if it weren't for Patreon, we would have lost many great YouTube Content Creators out there, and they are kept afloat all thanks to Patreon.
However, as good as it has been.
I also honestly believe that it might have been a Bane on YouTube as much as a Boon.
How?
Well it has allowed YouTube to stretch their limit's much further than they otherwise would have, and allow them to bend more willingly towards big corporates knowing that the smallpawn of youtube can easily be sacreficed and that out of those who really have a passion for youtube might get funding from their fans via Patreon and other similar direct funding methods.
However, if we look at it this way, if Patreon and direct funding from Consumer to Creator in YouTube exist.
The adpockalypse would have had much more devestating effect on YouTube, wich would lead to much bigger consequenses. And alot of Creators quitting youtube.
We can see this alot with Animators, alot of them have simply left YouTube as it no longer rewards Animators enough compared to time and effort they have to put into it, and most of them have fled to other platforms.
If Patroen wasn't a thing, then the rival YouTube platforms would have much greater growth and potential to rival directly against YouTube and create direct competition.
However the cost would be that we would loose alot of great content creators.
But it does make my feel that by using Patreon, I am allowing YouTube to do the things that it does with very little consequenses for themselves.
Thus they can proceed on doing things that are rather unfair towards creators.
I am glad that Patreon exist thou. And I do think most likely this path has been better for both Youtube and it's Creators and potentially the future of YouTube.
