If things get nasty and we have to fight this thing out, here are two possible ways that we can kick them right in the bottom line ( where it hurts the most )!
Ideas on how to fight back: Much like real actions in the real world, these will require commitment and sacrifice. However if enough people do it, it will hurt them a LOT more than it hurts us. It will definitely get their attention ( especially if we announce it to them first )!
Youtube strike Variant A: If it's doable, set your videos to private for a day. This will hit them where it hurts, the bottom line. If enough people do this, I guarantee it send chills down their spine when they begin to realize what it will cost them.
Youtube strike Variant B: Pick a certain week of the month and don't upload any content for that week. Also, don't make up for it by uploading twice as much the next week. Make them loose a week worth of our content once per month until they stop their non-sense.
What do you guys think? How many content creators do you think we would need as a minimum number for this to be effective?

I think this is cutting the branch you're sitting on. Youtube already operates below profit and hurting them more will only make them more desperate in bending over to where the money is coming from. There are other solutions to try first.

I was not aware that thy were operating below profit, however I am intrigued. Can you tell me more about that? I know that I could just Google it, but that's not always the best way to find actual reliable information. Since many of you have been in direct contact with youtube ( and have attended conventions ) I'm wondering what you know about the situation.
We definitely need a full understanding of the situation so that we can take actions that make sense and will be effective.
Thanks for pointing out the possible flaw in my tactic. You've definitely got me thinking.
Now the biggest three question in my mind are: ---------------------------------------------- 1. Where is the actual problem happening? 2. Why is it happening? 3. What can be done about it?

Can't tell you more about financials. It's fairly common knowledge and I don't know more than the first few links that will come up.
As for the three points, the answers are within Joerg's manifesto and the actions this group will take.

I think a plan B would be a new youtube of our own this would take alot of time and should be a secret operation. If they fight us and it goes to far we upload there nightmare on Amazon S3 data center. Within one week 10k channels transfer. Worse we release a youtube api bot that sends the youtube channel over with all there videos. Allowing users to host under there own bots will enable YouTube banning the bot useless.

I posted elsewhere some numbers showing that YouTube is a platform that is operating at a loss and that It might be wiser to talk about what we can offer the platform rather than what we can take away. Ok, so in consideration of the point of view that they are loosing money:
What could we actually do to help with that? What actions could we take to bring more money into Youtube?

Ok, so in consideration of the point of view that they are loosing money: What could we actually do to help with that? What actions could we take to bring more money into Youtube? One thing that we as users and creators could do is drive premium memberships by creating premium content. I know that this is somewhat problematic because I believe that YouTube red is currently only available in the US, but a relatively small number of premium users can significantly reduce the reliance on advertisers for the whole platform. For example, Netflix only has a small fraction of the user base that YouTube does, but because paid subscribers are a more secure and steady revenue stream they are able to make billions of dollars in profit without needing any advertisers on thier platform at all. Global polls have shown that about 10% of YouTube's user base would be willing to pay a subscription for premium content and only about 3% would actually be required sign up for YouTube to make a profit. Not to mention videos are paid based on watch time for premium users and don't need to be ad monitized to make money. So the more premium users you have in your subscriber base the more predictable and steady the income. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
