I do not have a large Youtube channel and it has mainly been dormant since I did art related videos. But I have been on Youtube for 11 or so years.
I was in the middle of gearing up to start producing a steady stream of videos on history, philosophy, art and politics etc. Nice audio equipment all setup, made custom video backgrounds etc. Writing scripts etc. But then the first adpocalypse happened and then a steady stream of bands and purges and demonetization etc. Now the question is it even worth doing it on Youtube? Am I better off just making an audio podcast? Is there any future on Youtube for any thing that might even remotely be controversial or political? Is it worth the vast amount of time needed to put out a quality product on their platform? This is one reason why I like the idea and want to help with the Union. Even if I decide it is not worth it for me I still thing free speech is important. And I think Youtube treats its creator badly over all.

I'm new as well (started end of 2016). I think our problem here is we missed the train and now we need to play catch up, which will require a lot more effort and time. Demonetization doesn't help either, but don't give up hope. If it's fun doing it why not?

Demonetization doesn't help either, but don't give up hope. If it's fun doing it why not? Well I should have been more clear I have done videos off and on for like 11 years. Just deleted a lot of them and was never very prolific. I do agree though we have in many ways missed the train. It is much harder to get views now than it was in the past. The bigger channels get bigger and it is harder for the smaller channels to get a share of these views. I agree also if you have fun doing it you should at least think about doing it. But as you get older you tend to think more about time vs return on investment of that time even if its fun. Not saying I or any one should not make videos just that the odds of getting any return on investment have gone way way down. For myself I will probably end up doing something just not sure of on what scale yet.

I just wanted to say hello, as I am also in the DFW area. I have had a YouTube account since 2006, but only so that i could make playlists and comment on videos. I didn't post a video until one night in 2011 when I was trying out my first smartphone. I took several short videos at a fire scene and uploaded one of them. It had horrible quality. I never uploaded from that phone, mainly because of my limited data plan. Now I have four channels, two of which are small and mostly gathering dust and two that I try to keep mildly active.
