I sometimes give away stuff in my videos - typically, I reply to the comment posted by the winner and ask them to PM me their postal address so I can send the giveway item. YouTube is removing the private message function soon - does anyone have any ideas how to securely give away prizes after that? Here's the issue (and I've heard of this actually happening before): - Atomic Shrimp runs a giveaway to be awarded to a random commentor
- 100 people comment, and at the end of the competition, Random Joe is selected as the winner
- Atomic Shrimp replies to Random Joe "Hey, email me via my website to get your prize"
- That's a public comment - anyone can see it
- *Someone* emails Atomic Shrimp claiming "I'm Random Joe! Send me the prize"
- How can Atomic Shrimp verify that this really *is* Random Joe and not just anyone else trying to jump in?
With YouTube PMs, it was always possible to follow the user back and relate the PM and the comment to the same YouTube account - but how do you do that when the incoming contact claiming the prize is via a completely different channel?

Ask them to write another comment with a specific text.
I'm with you on the feature shut down though.
