I am a musician who enjoys performing and recording covers of some of my favorite tunes. One of them is the theme song for the old TV show called The Avengers (with Emma Peel). I've covered that tune using my own arrangement of instruments and published it on YouTube. They recently told me I was in copyright violation. Am I not able to publish my own recorded performances of other people's songs?
Can anyone shed any light on this subject?

It's likely automated detection. A cover is still in the grey area of copyright and not in a grey area if your channel is monetised.
