Welcome to the forum.
This will be a growing post with FAQ to avoid duplicates.
How did all this start?
Who is leading this movement
It's been mere days since inception by Joerg whose view is as follows:
Is this a real, legal trade union?
So what's the plan?
Firstly, the plan is to organise and to formulate a leadership structure.
Once that's in place we will all review all the ideas being floated around and combine them with Joerg's original manifesto.
The list will likely be put to a vote following which the executives will hear from the union.
Whether this will be via a direct contact or through a concerted upload effort and mass cross-posting to social media is to be confirmed (those are not the only options either).
We need to gain public interest and bring the issues to light. The more attention we get the more options we will have.
> List of demands (work in progress)
Joerg has given several interviews and the coverage will start coming in W/C 5/1/2018
We will then introduce the group to YouTube which they will ignore. In response creators will upload a video to an alternative and post a teaser to their YT channel.
This will run for about a week and be visible to YT and us in analytics. The result will be further used to grow and apply pressure.
Are we boycotting Youtube?
Unlikely as there are many other effective ways to achieve what we set out to achieve, but it's not ruled out.
There is a thread about YouTube alternatives but it's supposed to be a research piece in terms of what's out there, what functionality and features these platforms offer and what are the threats to YouTube as a platform. With that being said, if YouTube continues down the current path of disenfranchising small creators, at least there will be a central resource that will allow them to easily find and choose a platform based on what content said platform allows, how many viewers it has and how much does it pay in return for the work put in.
Is there a website?

Where to suggest big creators we need to contact and get onboard?
> Use this thread.
Please refrain from political discussions and focus on the common goal.
We're aware Youtube is a US based platform and is being put under pressure by various groups. It's also clear that this is having an effect on certain channels.
One of the objectives of this union is to equalize opportunities and do away with censorship as well as pressures that result in self-censorship.

Who is leading this movement
It's been mere days since inception by Joerg whose view is as follows:
I have initiated this community effort and I am willing to lead it for the time being. However, if this really develops, we will have to decide about formal leadership. This is usually done by a vote. But this will take some time. Potential leaders will identify themselves by their activities in the discussions. Then, at some point, we will organize a vote and then go ahead.
I am not doing this so I can be the "president" of a union. I would very much like to focus on my beloved YouTube channel and see this here as a duty and not as a career opportunity. I do feel qualified for the job as I am looking back to a long career in executive management. I have worked with and for publicly traded companies and dealt with Google, amazon, Netflix, Panasonic, Sony and many more global players. I think I have a good understanding how these corporations tick.

Is this a real, legal trade union?
Joerg:
Well, this was never supposed to be a "run of the mill" union. It is more like a community powered movement.
But we can employ similar tactics and strategies than unions.
In fact using fully dependent "self employed" work force is a common method some companies use to evade employment laws. Unions know about that and fight against such behavior. YouTube has to be very careful indeed not to be seen an employer by German law. In case that happens, they will have to pay social insurance for all the German creators and for many years back.
