Panthen, I agree. A first good start would be a dedicated, official YT-Channel for announcements etc. Then, an official Patreon should be set up to get some money in. Maybe a kickstarter or GoFundMe would also be an option? I have a feeling that some competitors of Google would be quite happy to donate XD

I think you are undervaluing how loud 7.5k peopel can be. Even so, simply being loud won't do much. We have to have some negotiating power. That's the reason for this thread in particular, to figure out a strategy for moving forward. Having a clear direction forward and empowering a group of people to make decisions on behalf of the Union is a good concrete first step. Please contribute to this thread to help make that happen. Also, 7500 joined the Facebook group maybe, but there aren't even 300 on this forum. We really need to grow the number of active and participating members to make someone as big as YouTube blink.

The way I see it?
For the first little while, it'd be best if we worked *within* the system, however fouled that system may be.
I posted a few ideas on the Facebook forum under my real name, but to sum them up:
#1 - Game YouTube's system by creating a "viral" effort all our own and letting things snowball. This can be as simple as "candy-coating our message and recruitment efforts" to a full-on "I am YouTube" prepared statement we'd each read.
#2 - Slow prodding of the general public by finding ways to include the YouTubers' Union logo into our videos somehow with links to further information in our description boxes.
Subscribing to everyone else's channels may or may not work, as while we *could* start getting people over the 1,000 subscribers minimum, it'd still be on that person to get the watch hours.

I haven't joined this union, still working on finding out who all is in it.
But the union could find a media rep of some kind to search out sponsorship deals for its channels removing the reliance on YouTube's payment system for some of its members. I agree with Joerg that YouTube doesn't seem to push non-ad videos but...
Downside is that it might turn the union into more of an MFN and would require higher degree of administration.
